EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy can be helpful to process traumatic memories and the distress associated with them.
When we experience a distressing event, it can get stored without being processed in the brain along with the original visuals, feelings, and thoughts. This means that when we come across reminders of the event, a lot of discomfort and unpleasant emotions connected to the memories come up.
Your brain already has natural ways of processing events (it does it every day) but for ones that get stuck, EMDR is designed to unlock the system and allow your brain to process the unresolved memories.
EMDR looks different that traditional talk-therapy, and uses bilateral stimulation such as eye movements to aid processing.
EMDR is considered one of the most effective treatments for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and can also be used for concerns like anxiety and depression.
Grace is a trained EMDR clinician and will work collaboratively with you through the process to ensure your unique experiences are centred and understood.
